Maybe, instead of beating ourselves for not achieving our dreams, we can celebrate ourselves for achieving exactly what we really wanted. I wanted an enormously successful career. I wanted to write a bestseller. I wanted some other things.
What I wanted even more was to be a good father, husband, lover, friend. I spent my time trying to achieve it instead of trying to accomplish everything else. I spent time overcoming bad habits, bad thoughts, bad examples, my mental illness. I spent time moving on in some areas from overcoming to being what I wanted to be. It’s what I gave my time to. It’s the people I love.
Your legacy is what you do every day.
